Original WW1 “Fight For King & Empire” Banner Poster by Hanbury, Tomsett and Co c.1914

This First World War banner poster was created by the British Parliamentary Recruiting Committee to encourage the enlistment of young men into the armed forces. By 1915, the British government was increasingly eager to recruit men for the Army as what was to have been a very short war had turned into a long struggle. Britain lacked a steady supply of trained reserves who were ready to fight and as a consequence published many patriotic posters in an effort to continuously recruit new soldiers.
The 33” x 13.5” poster has been freshly & professionally framed and is crested with the 'G.R.' (Georgius Rex) cypher of King George V around the royal coat of arms. It entreats the unenlisted viewer to 'Fight for King & Empire' because 'Our Brave Soldiers Need Your Help'. This imperative text is coloured red, white and blue, the patriotic colours of the Union Flag.
It’s in good overall condition with foxing and edge imperfections commensurate with its age & use.
