Fabulous Sailor Carved Boatswain or Ships Master Walking Cane (c.1800-1850)
The detail in this carved hard wood nautical walking stick is amazing, consisting of graduated pieces of carved hardwood, ebony? or fruitwood on a metal rod, with diamonds, heart & star shapes carved into each piece, some fitted with mother of pearl. It has a turned mahogany pommel at the thick end and a brass tip at the foot end. It measures 3ft long and is still extremely flexible.
18-19thC sailors carved items or folk art are incredibly sought after, so don’t dally!
