WW2 Royal Navy Submarine HMS Torbay Bronze Screen Badge c.1941-47
HMS Torbay, was a highly decorated T-class submarine of the RN, built at Chatham Dockyard and commissioned in 1941.
She was best known for her aggressive patrols in the Mediterranean, where she sank numerous Axis merchant ships and earned legendary battle honours.
Altogether she sank 17 merchant ships, totalling 38,000 tons, plus 5 warships and 24 sailing vessels, and was involved in an attack on Corfu harbour that won her captain, Lieutenant Commander (Lt. Cdr.) Anthony Miers, the Victoria Cross.
Having survived the war, Torbay was sold on 19 December 1945 and scrapped at Briton Ferry, Wales in March 1947
This whopping 18” x 12” large solid bronze screen badge has been stripped of the totally incorrect paint job, which covered up the original one, and now exposes the original bronze surface. However, we’ve left the back to keep some of the used patina, commensurate with its age & use, which also has the original imperial mounting holes.
This is an amazing chance to own a real piece of WW2 naval history!
