Vintage Brass & Mahogany Compass Binnacle by N.V Observator of Rotterdam c.1920-40’s
Observator (formerly De Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Instrumentenfabriek Observator N.V.) is a Dutch-based international company founded in 1924, specializing in meteorological, hydrological & maritime instruments.
This functional Dutch ships binnacle is in fine fettle and looks amazing, it has the odd mark and weathered patina comment with its age & use but has been sympathetically cleaned to reveal this gorgeous piece of marine hardware.
It stands 5ftH x 3ft x 2ft, has matching numbers to the compass and gimbal and retains the original oil lamp & flare tube.
As you can see from the pictures, the compass cover twists off to gain access to the interior and the underside still has the fittings to secure it to the ships deck.
