Product Details
Superb WW1 Royal Flying Corps 2nd Lt H.W Tagent Leather Flying Coat, Boots and Blanket.
Pilot, 2nd Lieutenant Harold William Tagent served in the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) during WW1, sadly killed in action on the 24th March 1917, whilst flying a photo reconnaissance mission over enemy lines in a BE.2e. His single engine tractor two-seat biplane, designed and developed at the Royal Aircraft Factory was downed by enemy aircraft and he was subsequently buried in Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery.
His personal effects, including his service medals, death penny, photos, letters, watch and uniform has recently come up for sale, which included this collection, consisting of a North African Blanket, Leather Boots and one of two Leather Flying Coats. (2nd one to be sold separately)
The blanket is in great used condition and I would keep it for myself if I’d didn’t think it should stay in this collection and was used to keep his legs warm during flight. The leather boots are intact with a wonderful used patina with imperfections commensurate with their age & use and comes complete with this fabulous supple leather jacket, with original buttons and lining , which easily fits me (5ft 11, 44” Chest), it is complete with no rips or tears but has the odd minor nick, mark or imperfection, obviously with war time use.
