Superb Solid Brass Royal Navy HM Submarine Rover (N62) Boat Badge c.1931-46

Rover was a Rainbow-class submarine designed and built by Vickers, Barrow in Furness for the RN, commissioned in 1931.
After workup, she was assigned to the 4th Submarine Flotilla, and deployed to the China Station, based at Hong Kong and transferring to Singapore at the start of WW2.
During late 1940, Rover moved to the Mediterranean, to attack the Italian Convoys and also assisted the cruiser HMS York during the Battle of Crete in 1941. Rover arrived at Souda Bay from Alexandria to assist in an attempt to salvage the disabled the heavy cruiser which had been severely damaged by Italian MT boats. Rover was used to provide electrical power to operate anti-aircraft guns during the operation, but the submarine was also bombed and had to be towed to Alexandria to receive temporary repairs before being towed to Singapore for more permanent repairs in late 1941.
At the conclusion of repairs, Rover operated out of Trincomalee, Ceylon, escorting several convoys and remained in the Far East until she was sold to Joubert of Durban. Rover was the only submarine in her class to survive the war and had a total of six commanders during the war. She was scrapped on 30 July 1946.
This original issued 8” brass boat badge is now in fine fettle after receiving a good clean, to remove the vast amount of dried Brasso. It’s well presented on mahogany and is a must for any RN badge collector!
