Superb Large Royal Navy Solid Oak Coopered Grog or Rum Ration Serving Barrel c.1800-37.
This amazing piece of Royal Navy history is in good used condition, with bags of patina, rum spills and imperfections commensurate with its age & use. To the front it is hand painted with the toast “THE KING, GOD BLESS HIM” and to the rear “GOD SAVE THE KING”, it has a hinged lid fitted with the original brass furniture, brass coopered bands to the exterior and has a locking clasp for a period padlock, to keep those pesky matelots away from Nelson’s Blood.
It stands 33”H x 20”D x 28”W slightly tapering to the top and is probably the oldest & best naval rum ration tub I’ve ever had the privilege to come through the M&K doors.
Fabulous RN artefact and probably not to dissimilar to the size barrel that Lord Nelson was transported back to Blighty in from Trafalgar!
