Superb Hand Crafted 2M Long Royal Navy HMS Vanguard Motorised Battleship Model
HMS Vanguard was a Royal Navy battleship built during WW2, commissioned in 1946. She was the largest, fastest and last battleship to be built in history and the only one of her class.
Vanguard's first task after completing her sea trial at the end of 1946, was to convey King George VI and his family on the first Royal Tour of South Africa by a reigning monarch, before becoming the flagship of the Mediterranean fleet in 1949.
She had a busy service career, often becoming the flagship of any unit to which she was assigned. During the early 1950s, Vanguard was involved in a number of training exercises with NATO forces and in 1953, she participated in Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation Review. During the 1959’s, she was kept active, along with four older battleships in reserve, largely as a counter to the Soviet Sverdlov-class cruiser fleet, which she easily outperformed. She was finally sold and sent for scrap in 1960.
This whopping model of the famous battleship is in fine fettle & extremely detailed. The amazing superstructure comes away to reveal a plethora of motorised parts within the solid hull, with chain links to power the four main gun turrets. The model has a gorgeous wooden deck, four prop shafts, plethora of boats and numerous deck fittings, making it an almost exact replica of the ole girl.
She is 200cm long x 50cmH with a breadth of 26cm and would make a fantastic display model or could rule the pond waves again!
