Superb Georgian Silvered 6 Drawer Spy Glass by W.Harris of Holborn London & Hamburg c.1820
This delightful optical instrument is in fine fettle and dates to around 1820-31, when the famous manufacturer of optical & scientic instruments “William Harris & Co” had a brief business dalliance with “W. Campbell” in Hamburg, before Campbell went his own way with his company.
The spy glass is still super clear, even though there are some minor imperfections to the surface of the large lens commensurate with its age & use. The rare 6 drawer body is silver plated with some wear and the eye piece is ornately engraved with “W. Harris & Co, 50 Holborn, London & at Hamburg”.
Overall it measures 4”H when opened and 1.25” when fully closed with a diameter of 1.5”.
