Superb Bronze & Mahogany Royal Navy HMS Ajax Name Board c.1963-88

Ajax was a Leander class frigate of the RN built by the famous Cammell Laird company of Birkenhead and commissioned in 1963.
Like most of the late 20thC Leander class frigates, Ajax was a fine workhorse, completing numerous deployments to Aden, the Far East, Gibraltar Guard ship, Beira Patrols, Persian Gulf and Falklands Patrols. In 1974, she assisted in the evacuation of British citizens after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, and 1976, while on a visit to Canada, Ajax visited the town of Ajax, Ontario, which had been named in honour of her predecessor, the Leander class cruiser made famous by the Battle of the River Plate during WW2. The Frigate Ajax, was granted the freedom of the city.
She was decommissioned in 1985, then replaced HMS Salisbury as a static training ship at Devonport. On 3 August 1988, Ajax arrived at Millom, Cumbria to be broken up.
The Nameboard is in good used condition with a wonderful weather worn patina and overall it measures 33” x 9”, with 6” letters.
Great piece of RN memorabilia!
