Rare Royal Navy HMS Beaver Carved Screen Badge by Messrs Martyn of Cheltenham c.1984

HMS Beaver was one of 10 Type 22 missile frigates built for the RN by Yarrow Shipbuilders in Glasgow, commissioned in 1984.
This original Master Carving of the Bridge Screen badge for the Beaver is the only one in existence. Initially created from artwork, it would then go onto the next stage, which was a carving and which was expertly done, in yellow pine by Messrs Martyns of Cheltenham.
This was then sent to the Royal Dockyard at Chatham and shown to the Admiralty Committee for approval, after which castings were duly made in brass or non amazing corrosive metal material. This original came from the Ship Builders when it closed down, and varnished for display in their Exhibition room. It’s in fine fettle with verso’s to the rear and measures 48cm x 36cm.
These don’t come around too often…..so don’t dally!
