HMS Jupiter (F60) was a Batch 3 Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN). She was, like the rest of the class, named after a figure of mythology. Built by Yarrow Shipbuilders of Scotstoun, Glasgow and was launched on 4 September 1967, commissioned on 9 August 1969 (see last picture for shipbuilders order page)
This heavy bronze plate has been cleaned and repainted in black by the previous owner making some of the letters seem odd, (wish they hadn’t) but the external edges & stamped numbers still have remnants of white bulkhead paint from the old girl. The plate is stamped by the shipbuilders detailing the order “No 2289” and dated 1969 when the ship was handed over to the Admiralty. (9”x 12”)
