This double sided framed newspaper is dated Thursday 7th November 1805 and is the 1st official published account of the Victory at Trafalgar and the sad loss of Admiral Lord Nelson, plus others by the newly appointed (because of Nelson’s death) “Commander in Chief, Vice-Admiral C. Collingwood”.
Excerpt-
“GENERAL ORDER
Euryalus, October 22, 1805.
The ever-to-be-lamented death of Lord Viscount Nelson, Duke of Bronte, the Commander-in Chief, who fell in the action of the twenty first in the arms of victory, covered with glory, whose memory will ever be dear to the British Navy and the British Nation; whose zeal for the honour of his King and for the interests of his Country will ever be held up as a shining example for a British Seaman”.
This original newspaper, which is in good condition with only areas of wear commensurate with its age, is framed in mahogany with glass to both sides. It measures 58cm x 42cm and is a must for any naval collection.
