Framed Soho 1st Mint Matthew Boulton Battle of Trafalgar Medal
Commissioned by Birmingham industrialist Matthew Boulton, the 1805 Trafalgar Medal was privately funded and distributed to survivors, marines, and the families of those who died at the Battle of Trafalgar along with Admiral Lord Nelson.
Matthew Boulton's medal for Trafalgar, depicts the bust of Lord Nelson to the front and to the reverse, a battle scene with 'Trafalgar 1805' to the exurge. The 4.9cm medal’s edge is inscribed with “To The Heroes of Trafalgar from M. Boulton” and produced in white metal from the Soho Mint, pierced for suspension on a blue ribbon.
It’s well presented within a glazed easel frame on red velvet, fitted with a gilt suspension clasp and lapel pin. The medal has been well polished over the 200 plus years so has signs of wear but it’s still eligible.
