Fabulous Large Victorian Royal Navy Coopered Oak Rum Serving Barrel or Tub c.1880
This superb piece of naval history has seen the reign of 7 British monarchs, including King Charles III.
This large (2ftH x 2ftW) Capital ship rum ration serving tub has a wonderful used patina, with rum spillages galore within the grain of the solid oak. It has 3 brass bands and is currently emblazoned with the toast to the “THE KING, GOD BLESS HIM” in brass letters.
It also comes with the change letters to toast the two past Queens, Victoria & Elizabeth II, the barrel also has faded stains and screw holes from previous change in letters and the previous owners widow, believes it spent sometime on HMS Bulwark c.1950’s, and is searching for a remembered photograph to back this up, I will confirm this once received.
