Fabulous Identical Pair of New Zealand Shipping Line Swivel Saloon Chairs c.1890

The New Zealand Shipping Company (NZSC) was a shipping company whose ships ran passenger and cargo services between Great Britain and New Zealand between 1873 and 1973, using Māori names for each of the vessels.
These amazing saloon chairs are in fabulous used condition with a wonderful patina commensurate with their age. The frame is made in carved mahogany with the shipping monogram central to the back rest, the frame and reupholstered ruby red velvet seat bases sit on cast iron baluster supports with their original deck bolt to the underside. Both chairs swivel through 360 degrees and are extremely sturdy, measuring 22.5”W x 21”D x 31”H at the back with a 19”H seat base and 27” arm height.
