As most will know, Station or 'scramble' bells like the present example would have been used on British airfields by the RAF during the Second World War. Ringing the bell would signal the threat of incoming enemy aircraft and to get planes into the air.
This particular one is in excellent condition with a good used patina to the red painted interior, commensurate with ringing. The front has the letters “AM” for the Air Ministry which is crested by the King’s crown, it’s dated 1945 and measures approximately 11.5” H and has a flare of 10.5”. It comes with a bronze clapper and wonderful hand made bell rope, again in the shape of a King’s crown.
